Located in the shadows of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains and just a few miles from the Appalachian Trail, our SGI Charmian family is full of hikers, hunters, fishers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. All of us at SGI love nothing more than celebrating our natural environment, as well as those in our community who work hard to keep it beautiful.
That’s why we were so thrilled to participate in this year’s Mason-Dixon Appalachian Trail Outdoor Fest, a community-wide celebration of all the people and organizations committed to protecting and conserving the beautiful natural environment here in south-central Pennsylvania.
At this year’s festival, we enjoyed an afternoon of live music and tasty treats from local vendors and connected with friends and familiar faces from all around the community. We were especially pleased to see our friends from the Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve, the Fort Ritchie Community Center, and the Renfrew Institute for Cultural and Environmental Education, who were out in full force to support the Greater Waynesboro PA Area Appalachian Trail Community and its work to bring the local community together.
SGI also brought back a community-favorite – our granule art station – and had employees on hand to show off some rock samples from our quarry, many of which are similar to the kinds of rock found in the Appalachian Mountains.
Huge thanks to the Greater Waynesboro PA Area Appalachian Trail Community for hosting this wonderful event and for creating a space for the community to celebrate the Appalachian Trail and our region’s natural beauty and culture.
